About the role

We are looking for an experienced Development Manager to lead a development team in our Shared Applications & Services Stream, where we build a lot of different services that our dental applications utilize and depend upon.

You will oversee a team working on our central Cloud Storage service which runs locally alongside the dental applications in the clinics and labs, and in the cloud. It supports automatic synchronization of data to where it is needed. The Cloud Storage also stores data in the cloud for the clinics and labs with adequate subscriptions. Your role is to create the conditions where the team can do their best work: clarity of purpose, predictable delivery, strong collaboration, and a healthy balance between feature development and long-term technical health.

What you will do

• Build, coach, and develop the team, cultivating an environment where people can do the best work of their lives.

• Lead your team through the full product lifecycle - from ideation and development to deployment, monitoring, and iteration based on customer feedback.

• Ensure the team have clear ownership of domains, responsibilities, and deliverables.

• Lean into the solution to build your ownership and knowledge, as you are overall responsible for the services.

• Optimize development practices for stability, scalability, performance, and rapid delivery.

• Ensure technical excellence in CI/CD, code quality, observability, and automation.

• Champion sustainable engineering practices, including clean code, testing strategies, and security by design.

• Collaborate closely with Product Managers and Designers to ensure end-to-end delivery of features and services.

• Work in close partnership with Product Management to turn priorities into actionable plans, ensuring timely and predictable delivery of features with clear trade-offs on scope, quality, and speed.

• Balance business-driven feature delivery with technical health, ensuring sustainable progress over time.

• Manage cognitive load for developers by simplifying processes, clarifying interfaces, and enhancing autonomy

• Shape 3Shape’s architecture and technical landscape, contributing to a maintainable and scalable platform.

• Participate alongside other leaders to define and propagate best engineering practices across the wider organization.

What we are looking for

• 4+ years of experience in software engineering with exposure to complex, fast-growing environments.

• 2+ years of leadership experience managing and growing engineering teams.

• Proficient in architecture patterns, backend systems, release processes, real-time data flow, and security

• Familiarity with cloud services, data synchronization, and security & compliance best practices (Azure experience is a plus).

• Practical engineering background with a deep appreciation for clean, maintainable, and scalable code

• An eye for system design and architecture, with the ability to weigh trade-offs and make pragmatic decisions.

• Experience with automated testing practices, CI/CD pipelines, and performance at scale.
